Congrats to Baker Chorus

Each year, performance groups throughout Kentucky compete for the privilege and honor of performing at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference. Groups submit a recording of pieces they performed during the school year and are selected by blind audition.  In 2017, Baker submitted the recording of their Distinguished Assessment Festival performance and was selected to perform at the 2018 conference.  They were the youngest choral group to be selected.  Baker was selected to perform alongside of other groups such as the University of Kentucky Chorale, Asbury Women’s Choir, and a few middle and high school groups.  Baker traveled to Louisville on Friday, February 9 and performed at the Cathedral of the Assumption.  They performed a setting of the Langston Hughes poem “The Dream Keeper,” the French folk song “J’entends Le Moulin,” a Latin piece “In Dulci Jubilo,” and the spiritual “Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burnin’.”

On Wednesday, March 7th, Baker Chorus received their 4th consecutive Distinguished rating at the KMEA District 7 Middle School Choral Assessment Festival in Lexington.  At this event, groups perform 2 prepared pieces for 3 judges, then sight-read for another judge a piece they have never heard in 5 minutes, without the director ever singing it for or with them.  All three judges gave them a Distinguished rating for their prepared pieces, and the sight-reading judge gave them a perfect 40/40 score.  Baker has received a Distinguished rating every year, but this year earned the highest individual judges scores so far in the school’s history.

These Bulldogs will be recognized at an upcoming GRC Baseball game, where they will sing the National Anthem.

Great Job, Bulldogs!

On Saturday, March 3, the Baker 5th grade Academic Team competed in the Regional Governor’s Cup Competition.  The team made a complete sweep taking home the Quick Recall championship, the Katherine Hume Sportsmanship Trophy, and were the overall 2018 Governor’s Cup Regional Champions. This was the first Governor’s Cup Regional Championship in BIS history!   Congratulations Bulldogs!

We want to wish good luck to the 5th grade Academic Team.  They will be competing Saturday, March 3, at Crossroads Elementary School in the Governor’s Cup regional competition.  The team will be taking written assessments in Mathematics, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Arts and Humanities, Composition, and also competing in Quick Recall.  Go Bulldogs!
